Discover Your History
Explore the History of the Jewish Community of Australia with our extensive collections of books on the subject, and through our work with the Australian Jewish Historical Society.
The Australian Jewish Historical Society is dedicated to promoting the study of Jewry in Australia from 1788. Since its founding, the Society has sought to compile and make available unique and authentic records relating to the Jewish people in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands via the acquisition and preservation of historically significant documents and materials.
Equally, the Society has pursued the conservation of places of Jewish interest and continues to foster the interchange of information through lectures, discussions and exhibitions of historical interest or value. The society also has a collection of journal articles available to read online.
Our library also works with the Australian Jewish Genealogical Society VIC (AJGSvic), a not-for-profit organisation that can help you research your own family history. They also provide amazing resources to assist members and non-member trace their genealogy. You can visit their website for more information.
For those with a military service background in their family, the Victorian Association of Jewish Ex Servicemen & Women Australia (VAJEX Australia) provide services and resources. You can visit the VAJEX website for more information.
