Description

Berlin, 1938… With every other door closing to Jewish people trying to escape the tightening Nazi grip on Europe, Shanghai was the only alternative left for 13 year old Horst – also known as Peter – and his family. They began to rebuild their lives in that exotic and uncertain environment, and managed to establish the successful Café Louis. Soon Horst was free to explore and later work in Shanghai and Nanking. His meticulous eye for detail and wonderful photographs will take you on a fascinating journey of the Jewish community and its exotic surroundings.
