Description
Jozeph, his brother Appie, their father and stepmother owned a kosher butcher shop in the thriving Jewish district of Amsterdam. When war broke out Appie was the first to be taken away and was murdered in Blechhammer concentration camp in 1944. The boys’ parents were murdered in Auschwitz in 1942. Jozeph was the only family member to survive, thanks to the courage and kindness of several farming families in remote Friesland.
