Description

Fela Steinbok grew up in a loving family in Sosnoviec, Poland. She recalls many details of the home she so loved and of her happy years as an enthusiastic student. Fela was inspired by Zionism, became a passionate member of Betar, and enjoyed caring for others. Then her world fell apart.

Fela married Samuel and together they fled to Russia, where they worked in a coal mine, then various collective farms. Tragedy struck again when their beautiful baby daughter died in Siberia. Two years followed in Kazachstan and another year in Ukraine, before they finally returned to a Poland they could no longer call home. Their second daughter Julie turned one in Germany, before the small family moved to Paris, then finally to Melbourne.

Throughout her life Fela has remained a keen student, a dedicated Zionist and a person friends could turn to in times of need.
