In 1938, Halina Neuberg (Zylberman) was a ten-year-old living with her parents in the beautiful medieval city of Krakow, Poland. The five-year saga of their survival in the Second World War with false identity papers, is gripping. The story of the last year, when Halina and her mother are taken to work in the field-kitchens of the Goering Division of the German Army, and their retreat westwards in tanks, is quite astonishing.
