Description

Leo Cooper is Senior Fellow at the Contemporary Europe Research Centre of the Arts Faculty, University of Melbourne. He was born in Warsaw, where he trained as a fitter and turner.

Following the German occupation of Warsaw in 1939, he escaped to Russia where he stayed until 1946. He was repatriated to Poland in that year and emigrated to Australia in 1950. He received his doctorate at Monash University in 1987.

This is the story of a migrant who, like many before and after him, overcame the challenges of leaving a difficult past to face an unknown future.
